Baptisms Through the Sacrament of Baptism, God shows his love to us and freely pours the grace fo his Holy Spirit upon us. The Quintet benefice operates an open baptism policy and we are always more than happy to baptise children and babies There is no fee. The baptism of children is arranged through the parish priest. Baptisms take place on a Sunday morning only, normally at 12.30pm. Before the service the parish priest will meet with you to discuss the order of service, and also the churches understanding of baptism. When you are considering godparents, it should be borne in mind that they must be baptised themselves. If you are over the age of ten and are seeking baptism, please contact the parish priest, as a longer period of preparation is required. It is usual for an adult seeking baptism to also be prepared for Confirmation. Marriages Many congratulations on your engagement. If one of you lives within the benefice, you can be married in any church you choose within the benefice. Even if you are not a parishioner at present, it is also possible to marry you in one of the churches in the benefice, if you can demonstrate any one of the following connections.
That one of you:
has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
was baptised in the parish concerned or
was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months or
That one of your parents or grandparents:
was married in the parish
For these purposes 'regularly' means at least monthly attendance at worship. It is also possible for us to marry persons who have been divorced. Requests for re-marriage after divorce are considered individually by the parish priest who will want to know about the circumstances of the previous marriage breakdown. If one of you holds a foreign passport; the formalities take extra time so please get in touch early. Do get in touch with the parish priest if you want to discuss the possibility of marrying and church. There are fees to pay, and a list is available here. If you do decide to be married here, we will need to arrange to have your banns read, if you both live in the parish they are read here only, but if you live elsewhere you will need to contact the Church of England priest in the parish you live in to arrange for the banns to be read there. They will issue you with a certificated, which we need to see before you can be married here.
Funerals Funeral Services are taken by the parish priest, reader or one of the clergy team. They are normally arranged in the first instance through a funeral director who will then contact the parish priest for you. Whoever is conducting the service will come and see you beforehand to confirm the arrangements. Residents of the benefice and those with a connection to the benefice can be buried in any of the four beautiful churchyards that surround the churches at West Runton, Beeston Regis, Gresham and Aylmerton. If arranging the cremation of a loved one, you may like to consider using the church for the funeral service rather than going straight to the crematorium, as this allows for a less rushed and more dignified funeral. Following cremation, the ashes of the deceased can also be buried in a churchyard in the benefice, by prior arrangement with the parish priest or funeral director. If you wish to erect a monument in a churchyard covering a interment or burial of ashes, you need to seek the permission of the parish priest beforehand and he will be able to advise you on the latest diocesan churchyard regulations.
